NEXT GUILD MEETING:
Sunday, Sept 19, 5:15 PM
at the Puppet Showplace Theatre
32 Station Street
Brookline, MA 617-731-6400
Program:
SCENE CHANGES IN PUPPETRY
Making smooth scene changes is a practical and important skill for the production of polished works for the puppet stage. We will learn from three presenters their strategies for puppet show scene changes. Working with different styles of puppetry, these professional puppeteers make these changes appear effortless from the outside, while managing complex actions in small, dark backstage spaces.
Topics include: character changes (where to place/pick up puppets), sound/lighting changes, and set changes. Each speaker will talk about the challenges of each puppetry form, traditional sequences, their particular strategies, and what they are working on refining for the future.
There will be a Show and Tell, and “Where You At” for people to tell what they’ve been up to. Bring your latest puppet to show!
There will be a potluck supper during the break, so please bring something to share. (And remember to take your dishes at the end!)
Meetings are held at the Puppet Showplace Theatre, 32 Station Street, Brookline, MA (617-731-6400).
